Trenchers launched in March 2010 as a chain of deli sandwich bars offering freshly made buffet lunches and coffee in busy city centres and business parks.
We were briefed to research brand names and branding for Trenchers that communicated the quality deli offer. Following the naming research we undertook, a number of names were presented to a consortium of stakeholders within the business. Trenchers was the clear choice and this was ultimately due to the substance that could be derived from it's historic past - a trencher was the forerunner to today's sandwich in the middle ages.
We chose a hand drawn font for the brand identity which emphasised the hand made approach of the food preparation and colours were selected to harmonise with a newly implemented interior scheme for the stores.
The brand was then rolled out across signage, menus, packaging, vehicle liveries, workwear and point of sale. We also managed the trademarking of the brand to ensure the clients investment in this key asset is protected going forward.
